Big Data is a term used to describe an amount of data that is too large or too complex to process and analyze with traditional means. These data, if analyzed, they can conclude in patterns and useful information on many aspects of our lives. With the excessive use of the internet all over the world, a lot of data are being accumulated and analyzed. The video bellow, produced by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, shows how Big Data are useful and at the same time challenging for national official statistics.
However, we should bear in mind that this mention is just too broad. Although Big Data can be useful for official statistics, this doesn’t mean that all data should be sacrificed for this cause. These procedures should take into account and respect our personal and mostly our sensitive data.
